1) The short version
- You can use OmegleChat without creating a user account.
- We do not store full chat histories.
- Video chat uses direct peer-to-peer WebRTC with STUN, so the other person may learn your IP address.
- We store moderation data, reports, bans, and limited technical data needed to run the service safely.
- If you break the rules, we may keep records needed to investigate reports and enforce bans.
2) What we collect
When you use OmegleChat, we may process the following information:
- Your IP address and basic connection metadata.
- A browser-generated fingerprint and random session identifiers used for matching, abuse prevention, and ban enforcement.
- Your selected chat mode, language, and interests.
- Your report submissions, including the reason and optional notes.
- Moderation snapshots captured for safety review in video chat.
- Basic operational data such as active user counts and service settings.
3) What we do not store
- We do not require a public profile or account for normal chat use.
- We do not store full conversation transcripts as a product feature.
- We do not keep permanent video recordings of chats as a normal part of the service.
That said, another user can still record or screenshot a chat on their own device. You should treat any conversation with a stranger as potentially copyable.
4) How video chat works
Video chat on OmegleChat uses direct peer-to-peer WebRTC connections with STUN servers. Because of that, the person you are matched with may be able to determine your IP address as part of the connection. If you do not want that risk, do not use video chat.
5) Why we collect this data
- To match you with another user.
- To keep the service running and prevent spam, abuse, and ban evasion.
- To review reports and enforce the community guidelines.
- To diagnose failures and improve reliability.
- To protect the service, our users, and ourselves when required by law.
6) Where data is stored
- PostgreSQL stores durable admin, report, settings, ban, and moderation metadata.
- Redis stores short-lived live chat state, queueing, presence, and rate limiting data.
- Moderation snapshots are stored on server storage in encrypted form and decrypted only in the admin browser during review.
- Your browser may also store local preferences such as interests and language-related settings.
7) Cookies and browser storage
OmegleChat uses local browser storage to remember things like your saved interests and matching preferences. We may also use technical identifiers and rate limiting data to keep the service secure.
8) Third-party services
We currently use Google Translate on the public site. If you use that widget, Google may process data according to Google’s own policies.
We may also rely on infrastructure providers that host the database, cache, and application servers. Those providers process data only to provide the service to us.
9) How long we keep data
Live matchmaking data is short-lived. Moderation screenshots are deleted after 7 days. Other moderation records are deleted after 14 days unless an admin marks them for retention, or longer retention is needed for safety, fraud prevention, or legal compliance.
10) Children
OmegleChat is for adults only. You must be 18 or older to use this service. If you believe a minor has used the site or shared personal information here, contact us immediately.
11) Your choices
- You can stop using the site at any time.
- You can avoid video chat and use text chat instead.
- You can clear your browser’s local storage and site data.
- You can choose not to enter personal information into chats.
